Default Checking & Installing the Java Plugin

The Java plugin is REQUIRED to run our Internet software. The Java plugin is pre-installed on close to 70%+ of new computers. But you may get lucky and not have it on your computer--but not to worry....

These 6 steps discussed here are the same things you would be asked if your instructor called us. You might want to print this page for reference.

To verify that you have the Java plugin installed correctly:

    1. Open your web browser and go to http://www.Java.com. Click on the link 'Do I have Java':

    2. Click on the button titled 'Verify Installation':

You will then see a screen showing the verification test:

    3. After the test has run, if you do not see a screen similar to the one below you do not have Java installed.

Any Java Runtime 1.4 or higher is compatible with Ellsworth Publishing Co. software, though you may want a higher version for other Java powered applications. If you do not see the screen above showing Java detected, you will need to download java and install it. http://java.com/en/download

    4. Close and re-open your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer) after installing the Java plugin.

    5. Some web browsers do not follow web standards. If you are using a custom browser (examples: MSN, AOL browser, Yahoo browser, etc.), connect to the Internet as you normally would and then open Internet Explorer to browse the web.

**If it still doesn't work, continue to #6

    6. Try downloading and installing the FireFox or Mozilla web browser from http://www.Mozilla.com.

FireFox is free, safe, and fast! There are never any special settings to look at, and it is usually a sure bet. It does have automatic popup-ad blocking and is a very secure web browser--it does not have all of the security vulnerabilities often found in some popular web browsers (think Internet Explorer). We use it at Ellsworth Publishing Co. for all our web browsing needs.

Default Windows 98 with Java Plugin and Internet Explorer

Once in a while, and it has only been seen with Windows 98 using Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer will not recognize the Java Plugin. (We have never seen this happen internally on a W98 machine, but we know that it does happen).

If you are SURE that you have the Java Plugin installed, and you are using Windows 98 with Internet Explorer, you may want to try the FireFox or Mozilla web browser -> http://www.Mozilla.org. This is the quickest way to solve this rare W98 and Internet Explorer problem.

This is a duplicate post, and duplicate to an email request.

As stated before and through email, we are not having problems on our servers, you need to look at changes made to YOUR system. You will probably find a great deal of success by reviewing #6 in the list above this post.
