All data not being stored

I have a student that has been complaining that the program starts him back at an earlier spot than he left off the day before. So I made him show me exactly where he was at the end of class. He had completed lesson 1-7( check marks on each). He was on Lesson 8 line 4, but when I print off a progress report, it shows he hasn't completed lesson 7. Also, what are the astericks for beside some of the scores?

Asterisks are put next to scores where correction was made. As for data not saving...are the scores gone, or just the checkmarks? Checkmarks can be affected by changes in the profile causing some scores to be 'skipped' but not deleted (due to the scores not meeting the current standards in the profile).
